5 Email Marketing Strategies to Consider in 2016
By: SmallBizClub
It’s tough breaking into an already busy industry, but there are startups created every day. Hopeful founders dream to lead their new company in a strong direction, no matter the trials they might have to pass to reach success. However, the competition is fierce, and one of the biggest concerns of the modern age is standing out. While identity in itself is significant to people, it’s incredibly important for a startup to have it, understand it, and accept it.
And, more importantly, it’s crucial for them to find their identity fast.
The biggest concerns for a startup company is the limited budget. With time and careful planning, it will grow, but there are options even when you’re not ready for the big billboards downtown just yet. In the digital age, email is certainly among the best ways of promoting your company, your brand, your products, or yourself. It’s free, and it has an extensive reach that could gain you customers and subscribers in no time.
However, since it’s so convenient, it’s used by everyone. Big brands, big names, and famous companies all have email marketing strategies that have become well-known. It’s important for every startup to find its face in the crowd, and develop smart or uncommon methods of separating itself from the rest. There are dos and donts, and then there are some email marketing strategies you should definitely consider for your startup.
Adapt to the Modern World
Back in the 90s when email marketing strategies first bloomed, it was a major step forward for companies to call out the email owner’s name in the subject line. It was made to garner attention because there’s certainly no better away to call out to it. However, it has been decades since marketers have gotten a hold of this strategy and starting out with “Hey John, I’ve heard about this…” is no longer a viable option. It will not work anymore.
The public has learned of this trick as well, and they’re genuinely repelled by it. Try not using their name and instead start out an email with an attention-grabbing phrase. Their friends wouldn’t write the receiver’s name in the subject line, so why should you?
Pretty and Practical
They say that the average person receives around 500 email marketing messages per month. That means that yours will have to be truly spectacular for a potential customer to remember it. It’s important to make yours look good. Pictures might be difficult to load for certain devices, so try getting creative with the coding. Perhaps add some headers linking to your website to simply offer your information instead of shoving it down their throat.
Everyone is on social media, and you are too. Use buttons to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Google+ accounts for quick access.
Lure Them
The rule is that every marketing email has a strong CTA (call-to-action) that just beckons the user to click on the hyperlinked text. However, try something different, such as including no CTA whatsoever. Instead, create a beautifully written and well thought-out text that will engage their attention. And then, top it all off with a “more details coming soon” or similar phrasing. That will be backed up later by your CTA email with actual links.
Don’t call users to you, try to draw them in.
Reach Them When No One Else Will
They say there’s no such time as the “right hour” considering you might have an interest in international clients. Every moment is different, so focus on your competition. Subscribe to their newsletter and pay attention when they send their marketing emails. Find an open window in the 24 hour period, avoid peak hours, and make sure your message stands out from the pack.
Focus on your customers and your opposition specifically. There are currently over 4 billion email accounts in the world, so you have plenty to choose from and reach as long as you consider it carefully.
Make It a 1-2 Step
Continue to keep them engaged even after they’ve subscribed. Make it easy for them, and considering adding an SMS message to your email marketing strategy. Send them a “Thank you” along with the confirmation, or vice versa, a reminder to check their email and all the goodies you have prepared for them. The easier you make it, the better. We live in a world where everyone wants everything to be done fast, so connecting more platforms to your services will be beneficial. Just don’t spam them. It’s a universally despised habit.
Never forget that people hate it when they know you’re doing the hard sell. So, have your emails reflect something different, make it clever, change the generic title, and you will get more clicks.
