A marketing company in the UK has managed to improve the well-being of its employees after allowing them to use a games console at work. Since last February, the staff at Vertical Leap have used the Xbox One for some much needed down time—and data shows that it has been having a positive—and productive—effect.

According to Casewise, a provider of business management software who polled the employees, 72% of staff who used the console were less stressed since the Xbox One’s implementation. Furthermore, 83% were happier and more than 60% preferred working for Vertical Leap.

Since being provided with the console, 38% of these respondents believed the quality of their work had improved, while 88% thought they were more productive.

“Having the console in the office is a great way to unwind and take the edge off a long working day”, stated one of the employees, “When you return to your desk I feel motivated to crack on and work hard.”

Another staff member said, “Since we have had the games console it has given our team a space to relax and even discuss problems which we may be having with clients whilst playing.

“I have found problems to solutions thanks to conversations had while beating people at FIFA!”

The benefits of having a games console in the office were even felt among those who didn’t use the machine. For example, 64% of these individuals either reported that their stress levels had declined or were unchanged and almost 80% stated the Xbox wasn’t adversely affecting their work.

Speaking to the researchers, an employee stated, “I’ve not used it yet, but just knowing it’s there to use is enough. I’ve seen noticeable changes in colleagues as a result though.”

Matt Hopkins, CEO and Managing Director of Vertical Leap, purchased the Xbox One to give his employees some much needed down time at work:

“At times, our jobs can be very stressful,” he said. “I thought that introducing something to relieve the pressure of deadlines and demands would achieve better results and create a nicer atmosphere in the office.

“I got the idea for the Xbox after reading about the benefits of video gaming online. Plus, most of the employees owned older versions and wanted to upgrade. This just seemed like a logical solution.”

“I was intending to evaluate whether or not the console had helped my employees in the future, but Casewise’s team offered to do it and I thought it was a great idea. After seeing the results, I’m confident that introducing the Xbox was definitely the right decision!”
