New Facebook Page? Here’s How to Get People to Like You

You just set up your Facebook Page: great! The next step is to actually connect with people, which means you’ll have to get them to “like” your Page. When people like your Page you’ll have an audience you can engage with on Facebook.

 
Now you may be wondering why that’s important. It’s important because when your Facebook audience engages with your Page—either by liking, commenting on, or sharing your posts—you gain social visibility for your business. And that equates to free word-of-mouth advertising to highly qualified prospects—the friends of your audience who share similar tastes and interests. Nice.
 
So how in the heck do you get people to “like” you?
 
As you might imagine there are a number of different tactics you can employ to get more likes for your Facebook Page. Today, let’s focus on something that’s super simple and won’t cost you any money.
 
This is a tip that’s often overlooked (mainly because it’s rather obvious and seems too simple) but it works. And it’s perfect to give your Page the jumpstart you need when you’re just getting started.
 
Without further ado, here it is:
 
Ask your friends and existing customers.
 
See, I told you it was simple. As with anything in life, the first place you should turn when you need some help is your existing network. These are the people who already know, like, and trust you. They’re the people most likely to say “yes” and they’ll also help you get I’m front of others who may be interested.
 
But don’t expect people to just blindly say “yes.” You’ll want to give people a reason why they should like your Facebook Page. What benefit will they get from letting your business into their news feed? Answer that question and you’ll find those likes growing fast.
 
Now here are some ways you can actually ask for people to like you.
 
On Facebook:
 
  • Use the “Invite Friends” feature. Recommend your Facebook Page to your Facebook friends. Make sure you’re logged in as yourself, not your Page. Go to your Page and click on “Build Audience near the top. Select “Invite Friends” to choose who you’d like to invite to like your Page. These people will receive a notification letting them know that you have invited them to like the Page.
  • Write a status update from your profile. Ask your Facebook friends to like your new Page by tagging it in your status (type the @ symbol and start typing the name of your Page, select your Page from the drop down list). Be sure to tell people explicitly to hover over your Page’s name within the status and then click the “like” button. (Otherwise, some people just like the status rather than the actual Page.)
 
Via email:
 
  • Send an email to your subscribers. Hopefully you’re already using email as part of your online marketing strategy, it’s a great way to reach people where they are every day—their inbox. Email is great for driving action around your social activities. Send a dedicated email asking your subscribers to like your Facebook Page.
 
On your website:
 
  • Include a link or Like Box. Make sure people visiting your website also know they can connect with you on Facebook. You can include a link to your Page or use a Facebook Like Box to let people like your Page without having to leave your site.
