What’s In Your Content? 5 Tips to Success
By: Dacia Egurrola
Small business owners nowadays are moving towards virtual platforms to improve their lead generation. Content is a big part of this because it helps with SEO and engages readers. Still, many small business owners are part of a partner system (be it a franchise, mlm, or as vendors or distributors), and they need to be careful with brand compliance and producing quality content to make their site stand out to the local audiences.
In this balancing act, they need to take care of certain elements so they can build authority and trustworthiness through their blog! A great content strategy needs to be in line with a target audience, with the readers’ interest, with the company’s brand, among other aspects.
If you’re a small business owner in a partnership and need help making sure you’ve got everything down, I’ve created this list that will help you to evaluate how you’re doing, give you some perspective on what you could improve and to serve as a guide to future blog posts!
The Checklist for Successful Partner Content
Constant
It should be regularly updated (depending on the type of strategy you have for content). Hubspot states that 92% of companies who blogged multiple times a day acquired a customer through their blog. So, even if you can’t do it daily, always be reminded that getting quality content out in a constant manner will increase your chances of getting leads!
Compliant
If you’re a partner in a company, of course you should meet brand regulations! Some businesses even hand out guidelines on what the voice of their company is, what topics partners should write about, and the technicals aspects of content. Get in touch with corporate and work together to figure out a successful partner online marketing strategy!
Targeted
What’s the point of doing content if it doesn’t cater to someone’s needs? There are tons of generic content out there that don’t necessarily speak to anyone in particular. Which is why yours should be targeted to fit local audiences. Content + states that 60% of consumers feel more positive about a company after reading custom content from them. So, by helping your visitors out with their specific needs, they’ll be more engaged with your business!
Qualified
Quality is difficult to measure but it’s probably the most important element your content should have! Just ask yourself, is your content relevant? Is it unique? Low quality, duplicated content can do more harm than good! Don’t post just to fulfill a task. Stick with targeted content that makes sense and helps out the local audiences with a specific problem!
Detailed
It’s all in the details. This is tied up with quality but remember that anything from a non existent link to a typo, can make or break your post. Little errors like this, can be discouraging to readers because they give the impression that you don’t care enough about your content! So keep a sharp eye when producing blog posts for your partner site!
Extra Tips
So, now that you have all these elements that you need to look out for, it’s time to get practical: when are you going to evaluate your site?! This could be done in a couple of different ways:
- Do a general scan of your existing content to know where you’re at and improve what you already have on your site, which could be a one time thing.
- Go through the checklist every time you put up a new post, to make sure it meets the necessary criteria.
Another tip would be to add value to each of these elements! This way, you’ll be able to score your blog posts (yes, like in school). It may seem silly but, seeing an actual number will give you a more down-to-earth perspective on your content.
Conclusion
Content is important, but it’s not something you just put together to press “Publish” and get the task over with. You need to make sure it’s as good as it can be, keep it up and improve so your blog can grow a larger audience (and better leads). With this list you can check back on what’s already on your site and even use it for future reference. Remember that it’s important to evaluate ourselves (especially in areas, like content, that aren’t very familiar to you!) so we can keep growing, produce better post for our readers and keep climbing up in the page ranks.
