How Much Does a Website Cost: 2021 Price Estimates

Let’s discuss a question commonly asked by startups and seasoned business owners alike when getting a new website: how much does it cost to make a website? Some people assume websites are prohibitively expensive while others think they can be done in a few hours and for a couple of hundred dollars. Neither extreme is accurate.

Of course, a lot depends on what you want your site to do and who you hire to build it for you. A customized, user-friendly site made by a top-tier web development team will naturally have a higher price tag than a template site by one individual. If you expect a site that’s efficient and optimized for your local area, you need to hire an experienced web development agency with a skilled team.

Major Factors in Website Costs

There are three things that will play a major role in the cost of your site:

  • Size
  • Complexity
  • Design
  1. Size

The cost of your website has a lot to do with the total number of pages and page templates you end up with. Whatever the nature of your business is, you will likely need landing pages, blog pages, product pages, forum pages, shopping cart pages, portfolios, and more. If you plan on selling a wide range of goods and services directly from your site, you will likely need more pages than someone who is using their site for purely informational purposes.

  1. Complexity

When you ask a web developer “how much does it cost to create a website?”, you will get more questions than answers. One thing you need to be clear about is what you want users to be able to do with your site. Are you building a membership site? Is it an online store? Do you plan to share lots of photos or videos? The more perks and plugins you want the site to have, the more complex and costly it will be.

  1. Design

No matter how useful the information your site provides, no one will visit it if the overall design is poor. It needs to provide an expedited loading experience, navigational-friendly, and offer compatibility when using varying browsers and devices. Your needs should be a development company with a web designer who excels at their job and this, which can come at a cost.

Quality is Created By A Team Effort

We know you’re probably still asking “how much does it cost to build a website?” The reality is, websites tend to run on average $5,000 to $10,000 at a minimum. It may seem like a high price to pay, but remember that you’re paying for expertise, which is what you will get.

Title Role
Sales exec This individual is responsible for selling you the site.
Project manager This team member liaises between you and other members of the team.
Web designer  This is the person who provides the aesthetics and functionality.
Web developer This member of the team takes care of the technical, back-end details.
Web tester One or more professionals who check for errors and bugs using different devices and browsers.

Given the importance of your digital presence, you should find a reputable agency. You’ll never regret investing in a high-quality website.
