If you’re in the content marketing business, if you’re a content marketing manager or writer, or even if you’re just into blog writing or want to get your ad up on Google Adwords, you need a good keyword generator.

A keyword generator is a great tool that helps you determine the best keywords for your website pages and products, using a simple starting point and then generating applicable keywords and phrases. Here are eight tools that can help you do that.
While made primarily for users of Google Adwords and AdSense, this is a great tool for SEO developers as well. All you have to do is type in the keyword or words you’re looking for, and this tool will bring up a list of the most popular variations.
Details include search volume traffic, global and local, and suggestions of other keywords for you. What makes this application so good is that it’s from Google, the source itself.
The Compete tool offers three primary features: keyword referral, site referral, and compare sites. First, this tool gives you a list of most recommended domains. Next, you get results of the most referred search terms and/or domains. Lastly, the Compete section allows you to see exactly how your competition is doing. Taking advantage of that data is up to you.
The keyword suggestion tool from Digital Point brings you the best results from Wordtracker and Overture. All you have to do is type in the relevant keywords, and this tool displays the list from both.
One note: this feature displays the Wordtracker free service, which shows the results from every six months.
4. Google Suggest (labs)
While this other tool from Google may be simple, it brings you search result totals by keyword or keyword phrase and lists them right up there for you to see. The beauty in this system is its simplicity. This a great tool for beginners and starting points.
5. Google Trend (labs)
With Google Trend labs, you can chart the comparative value of varying search terms. For example, type in “Search Engine Optimization” with a Z, or do it British-style with an S. The chart pulls up the difference in search results, all lined up in a nifty chart that’s easy on the eyes.
Find out how search terms are coming up in Google News, and find out where the people are who are using the terms for search.
If you measure keyword tools by popularity, then Keyword Discovery is right up there at the top. It has a wide array of tools, but you’re going to have to pay for this service—$49.95 per month. Still, this tool returns as many as 1800 phrases.
As the price tag suggests, this tool is for the professionals. If you’re just looking for keywords to throw up on Google or Yahoo! ads, or you’re just a weekend blogger, you might do better going with one of the free services.
Wordtracker is like the mother of all search queries. With results totaling more than 340 million, there’s no better place to get just the right keywords for your site—if you’re not overwhelmed in the process.
So if you’re in the SEO business, or if you just like to do some blog writing, there are great keyword tools out there made especially for your needs. Some charge a fee; some are free. Whichever is best for you depends upon exactly what you’re looking for.
