My favorite definition of “mompreneur,” which essentially breaks down to being a mom plus an entrepreneur all wrapped up into one, hails from the blog for Success Systems Now. It says, “These are women who bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan and finally get paid for it without leaving their homes, thus lowering the cost of daycare in their house… the movement of the stay at home working online moms. You go girls!”
Power to the mompreneurs indeed! Being both a parent and owner of a small business is not without its daily balancing act. As both a CEO and mom to two very active sons, I know all about the art of time management and taking care not to spread myself too thin with the activities I participate in. And while the balancing act can sometimes turn into a frantic juggling session, I love being a mompreneur and find it to be the gift that keeps on giving for both my children and the company.
Here are four reasons why:
1) It Sets a Good Example
Kids look up to their parents early on as they grow up, and it’s important to always set a good example as both a parent and a role model. There are a lot of lessons that can be taught early on about maintaining a great work ethic and balance, and seeing mom in action maintaining both with passion and care drives the point home the strongest.
2) It Builds Confidence
The family unit as a whole becomes even stronger, but the confidence builds up the most within mom, and helps her to maintain her sense of self and contributions to the family.
3) Pride!
Many kids are proud of their working moms/mompreneurs, and it’s even better when you teach them early on just what exactly it is you do so that they can confidently and enthusiastically tell their friends and classmates not only that they love their working mom, but they know what she does all day too!
4) A Sense of Purpose
Being a mompreneur, in addition to building up confidence within mom, provides a sense of independence and purpose as well, which quickly flows to the children in the family. If you have the drive in place, you will go far!
