Rock Your E-Commerce Business: Here’s How

rock-your-ecommerce-business

Many small businesses are run mostly if not solely online these days. Even brick and mortar businesses often do a ton of business through ecommerce. It can be a huge sales booster, as shopping online is a big deal right now. It is easy and convenient. How can you be sure you are getting the most out of this huge market?

Make it Easy

The easier your ecommerce site is to navigate the better. The whole process, from browsing or searching to check out should be self-explanatory. Make the search bar obvious, make browsing easy, and create a check out process that is as simple as possible. If the site freezes or check out is cumbersome, sales will suffer.

Mobilize

All ecommerce sites really should be mobile friendly, and an app is even better. If your site is easy to navigate on a mobile device, you are going to increase sales for a couple of reasons. The most prevalent is that we are creatures who crave instant gratification.

If we think of something we want and can pick up our mobile device and get it easily, we will. If we have to get to a computer first, we will wait. Then we may or may not get to it later, if we remember.

Nail that First Impression

First impressions really are everything. Make the first impression of your website count. Hire a designer. Unless you are yourself a designer you are not going to get this right. Amateur websites are extremely obvious. Make sure it looks professional and that all links work before going live. It is hard to redeem yourself after a bad first impression.

Safety Should Be Obvious

Make your privacy policy easy to spot and read, and make it clear. You site must feel safe or no one will be willing to use it to pay for anything.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words (or Clicks)

Make your images pop. High quality images are a must. This goes along with first impressions. If the image doesn’t make visitors want to click, it is useless. This is another opportunity to outsource. Get a professional photographer or image designer, or both, to help you with this from the beginning.

Product Descriptions Must Be Top Notch

If you get them to the site, wow them with the first impression, get them to click on the image, then the product description fizzles instead of sizzles, you have gained nothing. Don’t neglect this. Hire a writer if needed. Writing product descriptions is a common job for freelance writers, and though it is a small job, it is an important one. The price you pay for great product descriptions will be well worth the benefit.
