Different Kinds of Online Businesses

If you’re an entrepreneur, you may be interested in starting an online business. You’ll save certain expenses, and you may be able to operate out of your own home office. So what types of online businesses are there? What options do you have if you want to start a business online? Read on for a breakdown.

eCommerce Site

An eCommerce site is the most common type of online business. You’ll be selling products and services directly to customers, without the need for any go-between, like eBay or Craigslist. You’ll be maintaining total control over the site, the price, the products, and pretty much everything else in between. It’s important to choose the right web design to maintain an optimal user experience; after all, this website will be the only impression your customers have of your business, since you won’t have a physical location. The flexibility offered by this type of online business is something many entrepreneurs crave, so if that’s important for you, eCommerce sites are a great option.

Etsy Store

Etsy stores are relatively simple to start. You won’t have to put in too much legwork to get your business set up. If you wish to maintain more control over the look and layout of your online business, you may prefer to go in the direction of an eCommerce site. But if simplicity and minimal set-up effort are important to you, you should definitely consider an Etsy store. Also keep in mind that Etsy is a platform for creative entrepreneurs, and most of the products sold on Etsy are handmade items. So if you craft your own jewelry, or do your own pottery, or re-sell vintage items, you’ll feel right at home on the Etsy platform. But Etsy does not allow mass-produced goods, so steer clear of those if you want to be a part of the Etsy community.

eBay Store

eBay is somewhat similar to Etsy. With both of these platforms, you won’t have to worry about setting up and designing your own website. All of that comes with the site. Again, this means that the entrepreneur relinquishes a bit of control, so if flexibility and autonomy are important to you, these platforms may not be the best option. But if you like having things pre-selected for you, you’ll like eBay. However, unlike Etsy, eBay allows a much wider range of items. There are still some prohibited items, so do some research before deciding if eBay is right for you.

Starting an online business can be really exciting, but like most other small businesses, you’ll still need some financing to get you started. Visit www.biz2credit.com for more information about small business financing.
