Don’t Miss Out at Events!

Personal development is important no matter what line of business you are in or what position you fill in that business. Going to conferences and networking functions helps to keep you on the cutting edge of what is happening in your sector. But sometimes, especially if you run a small business, you may find it difficult to make it to every event, even just the few core important ones. When you are running a small business how can you prevent yourself from missing out on valuable information?

Professional FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is becoming more of a problem in the social media age. You can see where all of your colleagues are at any given day or time thanks to social media, so your knowledge of what you are missing out on is greater than it could have been even five years ago. And feeling like you are being left behind professionally is never a good feeling.

Thankfully technology can help you in this situation. Many live events have started to live stream talks and lectures in order to reach a wider audience. There are podcasts available after the event is over so that you never have to choose between lectures and feel like you have missed out. It seems counterintuitive, but live streaming and podcasting actually increases event attendance. If you have a small business and you can only send one person, you can easily get the rest of the team caught up via video recordings.

Event producers are even spending more money on this type of technology. More than three quarters of event producers report they have an increased budget for event tech over last year, but what’s most shocking is how that spend increases their ROI. Events with tech for backup experience 20% increases in attendance, 27% increase in productivity, and up to 30% decrease in costs. Including tech in event planning actually makes the event better and more valuable to attendees.

Utilizing these live events as a small business owner can set your business intelligence apart. It’s always easier to say that you are too busy to attend events, but the knowledge you can gain and the connections you can make are crucial to keeping your business alive. Thanks to technology you no longer have to feel professional FOMO when your colleagues are all attending live events. Learn more about event FOMO and the technology that is helping to prevent it from this infographic!
