Let’s address some of the common reasons why people don’t hire an attorney or fail to receive adequate legal counsel. One of the most common reasons is due to personality, the stereotypical personality of a small business owner. They tend to be very self-confident, independent, self-reliant people. And these are all fantastic traits if you’re looking to start a business. But it is very important not to let those good qualities work against you when it comes time to deciding if you need outside help.

Another reason that small business owners might not hire an attorney is that they find it somewhat intimidating to deal with lawyers. But as business owners to have looked behind the curtain and dealt with attorneys will often tell you, don’t have that same fear. There is no reason to be intimidated; go ahead and bring an attorney in, meet with them, and see what they can do to assist with your small business. Most attorneys are not great at selling their own services and may be just as apprehensive as you are!

And the main issue that we might as well just get into and address, the main concern for everybody, of course, is fees.  Legal fees can be very expensive, and this is an area where a little planning in advance on your part and good management of the way you utilize your attorney can work those fees down and keep costs in line for your small business.
