By: Dan Alvin
If you are running a tutoring business, or if you’re a self-employed tutor, your reputation for integrity is your calling card. You will want to further the education of children not just with knowledge, but to ensure your students don’t cheat or copy others.
When a child learns and avoids copying, it means that the knowledge is understood. This will enable a child to continue to expand their knowledge and intelligence, which will benefit them in further education and their future career. And by building your tutoring reputation as a teacher who does not tolerate cheating, you are also building your business reputation.

Here are five tips to ensure your students do not cheat and copy.
Generate unique exams papers
When a student comes across work or exam papers that they have never seen before, it will be impossible for them to cheat. Therefore, generate and create unique papers so that your students cannot cheat in their future exams.
You can do this by using a question generator that will help you to use old test papers and create new exams, ensuring that the exams have not been seen or completed before by your students so no cheating can occur.
Maximize discipline and set rules
As a teacher, it is important to practice discipline and rule-setting, regardless of the cheating issue.
However, to ensure minimal or no cheating in the classroom, it is essential to maximize your discipline toward cheating and copying and set strict rules. For instance, disqualifying a student from taking an exam could be the punishment if they are caught cheating, which will hinder their final results and chances of applying to college or university. With discipline and punishment in place, you will guarantee to minimize cheating.
Encourage students to ask questions
If children do not ask questions, they will never get to understand the things that they find challenging. Hence, if they do not understand something and they are not encouraged to ask questions, of course, they are going to try and copy so that they do not fail.
Encouraging the children to ask questions will ensure that they can understand everything and not feel the need to copy or cheat to succeed.
Assess the classroom behavior and manage the student’s bad behavior
Another simple way to stop children from cheating is to assess their classroom behavior. Even if the students are taking an exam and the classroom is quiet, ensure to assess head and eye movements to ensure there is no cheating going on.
If you can be a kind and caring teacher, students will not want to upset or bother you by cheating, so they will not do it.
Remove materials from around the classroom to minimize copying
If there are materials around the classroom that give answers away or make exams easier, then remove them. You will not want to allow students to find exams easy by simply copying things from the materials on the classroom walls.
Ensuring that the classroom setting is as minimal as possible will ensure that no copying and cheating goes on and no clues are given away when students are taking tests and exams.
