Running a business is an exciting, difficult, and rewarding adventure. Often, individuals start businesses with a grand idea about how to improve their world or surroundings through a variety of different avenues, from clothes and jewelry to gyms and nutrition counseling.

Regardless of the business you are running, responsibilities surrounding accounting, project management, marketing and more are going to be a part of your everyday activities. These responsibilities may not seem as appealing as the goods or services you are providing, but they are important nevertheless. The good news is this: there are numerous software products that can help you run your business smoothly and dependably.

Accounting Software

Accounting software is used to track sales, create and send sales forms, generate reports for sales, finances, and taxes, manage inventory, and manage and pay bills. It is also used to complete payroll and pay employees if you have them. This software is also important for helping business owners see the overall profitability of their businesses and be prepared for the ever-important tax season.

There are many options for accounting software, including Quickbooks Desktop and Xero. Quickbooks Desktop is installed on your desktop computer whereas you access Xero from a web browser, like Google Chrome. Factors to consider when choosing which accounting software is best for you are the size of your business, whether you have employees or not, and what type of business you are running.

Project Management Software

Project management is critical for businesses. It may look different depending on your business, but project management, in general, includes task management, team collaboration, document management and workflow management. Project management software can help you organize and track lists, task charts, calendars, and project statuses.

Whether your business is run primarily online or in person, software like Asana or Monday can help you create tasks, assign them to employees or contractors, set deadlines and more. They can be customized based on your needs. Many project management software products have tiered subscriptions, so you can pay for what you need and not overspend if it is not necessary.

Marketing Software

Marketing for your business may include running a website, advertisements, email campaigns and social media accounts. If you are looking to have an online presence, you need to create a website. There are numerous platforms that host websites, including WordPress and Squarespace. These websites are very adaptable and can be improved and evolved over time. You can choose the website theme, layout, and more. Running advertisements online, especially on social media accounts like Facebook, is relatively simple to do.

Using the products and assistance available can allow you to run digital marketing campaigns that are successful and helpful for your business. In addition to running advertisements, email campaigns are effective marketing tools as well.

Email marketing software, including MailChimp and Constant Contact, allow you to create campaigns and automation services, which can help your business.  You can send emails when you are running sales or promotions, or to provide information about a new product or service you are offering in your business.

Social media software includes products to help run your accounts on platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. One type of software is Buffer, where you can create and schedule content that can be then posted on Instagram and Twitter. TweetDeck allows you to manage hashtags on Twitter, as well as receive alerts based on your settings. Running effective social media accounts and paying attention to the trends can help your business reach more potential customers and make more sales.

Document Management Software

A final type of software your business needs is a document management provider. Your business may utilize a lot of text documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Office 365 and Google Drive are popular document management software that can be used online, which makes them easier to access across different employees or devices, such as tablets and laptops. Utilizing the document software, along with other software mentioned previously, can help your business be successful.
