Filing a Personal Injury Claim from Work

People all over America understand that paying for medical bills can be an expense that they can’t afford. However, with the necessary medical attention needed, over one quarter of all adults in the US have unpaid medical bills. Over 60% of those unpaid bills are related to issues such as getting treatment for an injury.

For people who have suffered from an injury at work that wasn’t their fault, then they may be able to recover some of the personal costs and loss of income by filing a personal injury claim.

Filing for a personal injury claim can take a lot of time and energy, but this effort often results in a positive outcome for everybody in need of one and allow them to start getting their lives back on track.

Here’s how to begin a personal injury claim.

Get a Consultation

One of the first things to do is to get a consultation with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your best options. Many of them will offer free consultations which will enable you to present your case to different attorneys to find the best for each party.

A good attorney will use the time with you to decide whether they believe that case is worth pursuing. Some may decide against working on the case, but that shouldn’t be a discouragement as there will be another attorney willing to take the case.

Assess their suitability for handling the case

When you meet with an attorney, in spite of them having a say as to whether they accept your case, you are the one hiring them–not the other way around.

Be prepared with some questions when you meet with them. Ask them about their experience with personal injury cases and about their most recent successes. They may also predict how much money you could win on a case if it is successful.

Ask them about the claiming process and about how long it will be before you can expect to see a result and what fees they will expect after a successful claim.

How to pay a Personal Injury Lawyer

Most personal injury lawyers will want to discuss their fees when you have the initial consultation. The cost could be one of the deciding factors for pursuing a claim. Most lawyers will get paid on a ‘no win, no fee’ contingency basis, meaning you won’t have to pay them a penny unless you win. They will take a percentage of the money, and others may ask for a baseline fee to cover their costs.

Need help with your personal injury claim?

There are a number of types of personal injury cases. These range from worker’s compensation and medical malpractice to car accidents. A number of factors will determine whether your accident or injury will mean you have a case or not. When filing for your case, you need to determine whether you have the ability to prove negligence. Hiring a personal injury lawyer will help you to fight and win your case to help you to recover financially.
