With an ever increasing number of websites coming online every day, it can be challenging to get your share of web traffic. There are various ways you can increase the visibility of your blog simply by making use of the right tools.
When discussing visibility, I’m not referring to how well your blog is designed aesthetically. Instead, it’s how visible a profile you have to the general public. The most important example of this is your listing on search engine results.
Let’s consider some ways you can boost your blog visibility;
1. Leverage on Social Media
Of course, social media isn’t a channel to be neglected. Social channels in fact offer sites a unique opportunity to boost reach far beyond what would normally be possible. As long as your content is positioned correctly, of course.
Remember that crafting content for social media isn’t the same as for your usual website articles. You need to produce short content that’s direct and enticing at the same time. At the same time, distribute the right type of content on the right social channels.
2. Improve Site Performance
Today, Google looks towards site performance as one of the indicators of quality. Building your site optimally and fine-tuning performance can give you a leg up against the competition. There are many common ways you can do this.
One less commonly shared secret though, is to look towards your competitors. If they’re ranking well on search, the way their sites are built may have something to do with it. For example, you can make use of a WHSR tool that helps analyze websites to discover the technologies and some useful information behind a site.
Consider:
- What frameworks the site uses
- Languages used in development
- Web applications which may be used
3. Push Content with Email Marketing
Sitting and waiting for your content to grow traffic organically is powerful, but you can do more. Reach out to your visitors directly by levering on email marketing. Combined with data and analytics, you can push the right content to targeted groups of visitors.
This can not only increase your blog visibility, but also improve other stats such as the reduction of bounce rate. In order to do this however, you’ll need to have a means of gathering information from your users, like a subscription button for a newsletter.
4. Share Information on Forums
Sharing your expertise on forums is something that needs to be done with care. Many forums have strict rules about promotional posts, so make sure you are not doing that overtly. Ideally, look towards helping forum users solve problems.
In this manner, you can not only carefully build a few links, but more importantly, demonstrate thought leadership. If you can show others your skills in topics that are important, forums can become a good source of traffic.
Ideally, post regularly on a forum that’s related to the niche your blog is involved in. For example, if your blog is regarding web development, you can join Reddit’s subreddits for Web Dev, CSS or Coding.
5. Build Content Strategically
Perhaps one of the most important elements of a website is the content you produce. There are two broad types of content – timely and evergreen. Content which is time sensitive like news can be important, but it would be better to deal with evergreen content.
This is content which has extended value and can contribute towards a long life of traffic. All you need to do is refresh it from time to time, keeping it updated. This will help reduce your cost of producing content as well.
The content you build also needs to be of high quality in order to have real value. Remember, Google is a lot smarter nowadays and ranks content very tightly. Make sure your content is built on solid foundation, is structured well, and of course, has authoritative links.
6. Create Useful Infographics
Infographics are relatively simple (you can even use infographic templates!) to construct and have massive potential as well. By creating useful infographics, you are increasing the chances that your content will be more readily shared by others.
This is one method that can grow itself. As long as the infographics you shared are good, your site visitors will spread them for you, drawing traffic from sources you wouldn’t normally be able to reach on your own.
7. SEO, SEO, and SEO
This cannot be emphasized enough. Search Engine Optimization is the lifeblood of any blog. Build to impress – not just your visitors, but search engines like Google as well. Search should be your number one priority right from the time you construct your blog.
It’s also an art that’s always evolving, so make sure that even if you have everything in place, you keep an eye on what’s changing. No matter how well you think you’ve done your SEO optimization, you can always do better.
Where SEO is concerned, there are many tools available. Be prepared though as some of them, such as Ahrefs or Semrush, can cost serious money on a subscription basis. Free tools are available too, but these are typically much more limited in usefulness.
8. Register with Google Search Console
Make sure you have your blog registered with Google Search Console. While it may not be a major help, for new blogs it’s at least a quick and easy way of telling Google that your site does exist.
Aside from that though, the search console does also include tools that may be useful for you later on. For example, you can use it to check links, discover possible crawl errors, and even notify Google manually of any changes to content.
Conclusion: Build with Purpose
As you can see, there are many ways you can enhance the visibility of your blog. The most important thing to realize is that it is something that’s holistic and needs to be planned well for in advance.
If you feel that you’re struggling along and have no idea how to tackle the issue. Take a deep breath and sit back to reconsider. Work with these guidelines incrementally and don’t try to push everything at once. Work steadily and observe the changes as you make improvements.
