A GMB website will help with local SEO
If you’re a business owner and a DYI digital marketer, you may have noticed in your Google my Business listing manager that there is a tab for a website. Clicking that tab will get you started to building your businesses GMB website.
For any business without a website it’s a nice value add. It’s only one page with limited flexibility but it acts as a good central location for all of the essential information about your business. Hours, contact details, directions (if applicable), photos etc.
The websites that Google generates aren’t amazing but they do the job. The best thing is Google does most of the work for you, pulling information straight from your Google my Business listing.
I have a website, why would I need a GMB website?
Building a GMB website may seem like a waste of time. After all, your website probably provides more information and looks/functions the way you want. But you can have a GMB website without actively promoting it. Technically no one but Google has to know it exists.
So why would you bother?
Google loves information, the more the better. This is particularly true of information in their own eco-system. Having a GMB website is all activity which adds to your business’s online footprint. It’s certainly not a bad thing, and when you consider it takes literally minutes to create one why wouldn’t you?
A GMB website makes a good landing page.
There may be times when you want to link to your GMB website instead of your actual website. It’s a pretty good, concise page for encouraging action. You could use it in social media or Google posts to get clients, generate activity acquire leads.
Good things to know
- Google My Business websites have the address: https://example.business.site
- You can very easily unpublish the site at any time
- You can change the web address with a custom domain through Google
Customizing your GMB website
Websites are laid out as followed:
- Header – Featured cover photo and headline, description (very short) & call to action button
- Summary of recent Google posts
- Services – Depends on filling out the services tab in GMB
- Summary – The editable part, including a sub title and whatever you choose to write.
- Photos – Pulled from your GMB listing
- Footer – Service area/location map, address, contact details and business hours
So what can you edit? Not too much, actually…
- The headline
- The primary button (Choose from: Call Now, Contact Us, Get Directions, Get Quote, Make Appointment, Message Us (SMS), Message Us (WhatsApp)
- The description
- The sub title and the summary
There are currently a limited number of themes which really just change the look of the font and the color of the featured button.
